US Ambassador to Israel: We Don’t Need Tel Aviv’s Permission for an Agreement with the Houthis

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, said that the U.S.s’ move to respond to Houthi attacks against Israel will depend on whether any US citizen is harmed, following consultations he held with US President Donald Trump and his Vice President JD Vance, according to Israel’s Channel 12.

Huckabee added, in a clip from an interview scheduled to air at the end of the week on the channel, that “the US does not need permission from Israel to arrange any agreement that prevents the Houthis from targeting our ships.”

These statements come after a surprise announcement by President Trump this week of a ceasefire agreement between the US and the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen, which was followed by threats from the group to continue attacks against Israel.

Huckabee clarified: “I spoke with the President and the Vice President last night, and there are 700,000 Americans living in Israel, and if the Houthis continue to attack Israel and cause an American to be injured, then it becomes a direct US matter.”

When asked if the US would only intervene if Houthi missiles hit American citizens, the ambassador replied: “The issue is about what becomes an immediate concern for us.”
