Appointment of Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak as Advisor to the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

On Saturday, the Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, issued a presidential decree appointing Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak as an advisor to the chairman of the council.

According to the decree, Article One stipulates the appointment of Dr. Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak as an advisor to the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council. Article Two states that the decision shall take effect from the date of its issuance and be published in the official gazette.

This appointment follows Bin Mubarak’s tenure as Prime Minister, a position he held since February 2024, succeeding Maeen Abdulmalik.

Earlier, the internationally recognized Prime Minister of Yemen, Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak, announced his resignation, citing “many challenges,” foremost among them being his inability to exercise his constitutional powers to implement reforms and make cabinet changes.

The resignation came after media leaks revealed the Presidential Leadership Council’s intention to dismiss him and appoint Salem Bin Buraik as his replacement. Bin Mubarak preempted the decision by announcing his resignation, which was officially confirmed later in the evening.

His resignation sparked mixed reactions among analysts and activists. Some viewed it as a direct accusation against President Rashad Al-Alimi and the council, while others considered it a dignified exit in the face of imminent dismissal. Some commentators also highlighted the underlying power struggle between the Islah party and entrenched corruption within the legitimate government’s institutions, particularly within the Presidential Leadership Council.
