Yemeni Flag Raised in Damascus, Marking the Reopening of the Embassy and Resumption of Diplomatic Activities

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Syrian capital, Damascus, witnessed a ceremony on Saturday to raise the Yemeni flag atop the Yemeni embassy building, signaling the reopening of the embassy and the resumption of its diplomatic duties after years of suspension.

Ambassador Abdullah Al-Duees, head of the visiting Yemeni delegation, presided over the flag-raising ceremony, which was attended by Counselor Mohammed Ba’akar, acting chargé d’affaires of the embassy, along with several Syrian officials, including Mohsen Mehbash, Director of the Arab Homeland Department at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ceremony featured the playing of the Yemeni national anthem and welcoming speeches that emphasized the deep historical ties between Yemen and Syria and expressed hope for a new phase of cooperation across various fields.

This development follows the Syrian government’s decision to return the Yemeni embassy premises to the internationally recognized government, after it had been under the control of representatives from the Houthi group since 2015.

Meanwhile, the Yemeni community in Damascus expressed their happiness at the reopening of the embassy, voicing their hope that this step would help facilitate consular services and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
