Yemen Resumes Work at its Embassy in Damascus After a 9-Year Suspension

Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:

The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the resumption of work at the Yemeni Embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus, effective Sunday, April 27, 2025.

This decision comes in implementation of the directives of Shaea Mohsen Al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, and Asaad Al-Shibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs in Syria.

The ministry clarified in its statement that Counselor Mohammed Ezzi Ba’akar has been assigned as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the embassy.

It affirmed that the embassy’s return to its duties after being seized by the Houthi militias since 2016, with the support of the former Syrian regime, represents a historic and significant diplomatic moment in the relations between the two countries and brotherly peoples. It also holds profound symbolic significance for the presence of the state and its legitimate institutions and the demise of misleading and destructive projects.

The ministry expressed its aspiration that the reopening of the embassy will enhance bilateral relations between Yemen and the new Syria, and that it will mark a new phase of cooperation between the two brotherly countries in various fields.
