Massive Demonstration in Taiz Demands Teachers’ Rights

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Teachers’ Union Syndicate in Taiz Governorate (southwestern Yemen) organized a massive demonstration today, Sunday, demanding salary increases, pay structure adjustments, and a response to the demands of teachers who have been continuing their open-ended strike for more than two months.
Participants in the march raised banners demanding the improvement of their living conditions, addressing the collapse of the national currency, and the disbursement of delayed bonuses and salaries.
The syndicate issued a statement condemning the silence of the government and local authorities regarding the teachers’ demands, amidst deteriorating economic and living conditions and the decline in the purchasing power of the local currency.
The statement warned of the exacerbation of the economic crisis, which threatens a humanitarian catastrophe due to the government’s inability to provide urgent and radical solutions to the crisis of teachers and citizens in general.
The syndicate called for swift action to address the conditions of teachers, fulfill its obligations towards their rights, and protect the educational process, affirming its determination to continue the strike and escalate protests until the demands of teachers and educators are fully met.
