Oman Plans to Establish Logistics Centers in Yemen to Boost Trade

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
According to the Oman Observer newspaper, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in the Sultanate of Oman has invited qualified consulting firms to submit proposals for a comprehensive study of the logistics services market, with a focus on Yemen, East Africa, and the Horn of Africa.
The project aims to assess the competitive landscape and identify strategies necessary to strengthen Oman’s position as a key logistics hub in these regions.
It also seeks to evaluate the Sultanate’s current logistical capabilities, pinpoint existing gaps, and identify opportunities for improvement.
The deadline to purchase tender documents is April 17, while bid submissions are expected by May 1.
Thanks to its strategic location and advanced infrastructure, Oman’s transport and logistics sector is seen as primed to drive economic growth and diversification in the coming years.
According to a recent report by the Oxford Business Group in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, the transport and logistics sector is projected to contribute OMR 14 billion to the national economy by 2040, making it the second-largest economic contributor after hydrocarbons.
As of 2023, the logistics sector accounted for approximately 7% of the Sultanate’s GDP, contributing a total of OMR 1.7 billion, or 6.1% during the first nine months of 2024.
Currently, the sector provides over 79,000 job opportunities, with plans to create up to 300,000 new jobs in logistics services by 2040.
