Houthis Report 17 Air Strikes in Yemen Amid Attacks on U.S. and Israeli Targets

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Houthi rebel group has reported a series of air strikes targeting northern Yemen, just hours before launching attacks on U.S. warships in the Red Sea and Israeli military sites. According to Houthi-affiliated media, at least 17 airstrikes hit Saada and Amran provinces, with the group blaming the US for the attacks.

Houthi-run outlets, including the Ansarollah website and Al Masirah TV, stated that U.S. warplanes conducted “aggressive air raids,” causing material damage but providing no immediate details on casualties. Strikes reportedly hit the eastern and western parts of Saada, including Al Salem and Sahar districts, while two more targeted the Sufyan district in Amran province.

In retaliation, the Houthis claimed responsibility for two military operations. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced via social media that their forces attacked the USS Harry S. Truman in the Red Sea and launched drone strikes at Israeli military sites in Tel Aviv.

The escalation underscores growing tensions in the region, with U.S. and allied forces continuing to counter Houthi threats to international shipping and security.

The strikes followed the Houthis’ March 12 announcement of their intention to resume attacks on Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, ending a period of relative calm that had begun in January with the ceasefire in Gaza.

Last Saturday, US President Donald Trump announced that he had ordered his country’s army to launch a “major offensive” against the group in Yemen in response to its attacks in the Red Sea and international waters.
