Large Quantities of Looted Government Weapons Seized in Hadramawt

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Security forces in Hadramawt (eastern Yemen) seized large quantities of weapons and shells that had been looted from the Riyan Airport Camp during the events that took place in Mukalla last January.
The Hadramawt Police explained that security forces confiscated a large amount of weapons and ammunition, including 246 mortar shells of 60 mm and 81 mm, 26 transparent boxes containing 6 mm detonators, and 54 DShK rounds of 14 mm caliber.
The seized items also included 100 DShK rounds of 12 mm, one 85 mm mortar shell with three mortar propellant charges, two mortar bases, mortar shells of various sizes, and two wooden boxes containing binoculars and equipment used for mortars.
Police stated that the Criminal Investigation Department tracked a man identified by the initials (M.M.S) while he was bringing buyers for the weapons to the Al-Ma‘awis area, where the looted weapons were stored. Authorities arrested two suspects identified as “S.M.A.S.” and “R.A.B.”.
The city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramawt, experienced security chaos during the withdrawal of forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council and before the arrival of Nation’s Shield Forces, creating a security vacuum that led to widespread looting and raids on military camps and government buildings.
