The Yemeni Minister of Finance, Marwan bin Ghanem, discussed ways to strengthen financial and technical support for Yemen in the areas of economic, administrative, and political reforms during a video meeting today with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif.
The meeting comes as part of efforts by Yemen and the international community to implement a comprehensive reform program, including the preparation of the general budget for the 2026 fiscal year, as well as supporting financial stability and improving the delivery of essential services to citizens.
The discussion also addressed the British TAFFY team initiative, launched in January 2025, which aims to provide technical support and expertise to the Yemeni government in order to strengthen economic and political performance and empower government institutions.
Bin Ghanem emphasized the importance of international financing and cooperation with global partners to confront current economic challenges. He praised the continued support from the United Kingdom and other friendly and brotherly countries, especially the special support package from Saudi Arabia, which contributes to boosting investment and stabilizing the national economy.
The minister also noted that the Yemeni Council of Ministers, during its recent meeting in Aden, approved the draft general budget for 2026, describing it as an important step toward improving financial and administrative performance and strengthening political and economic reforms.
For her part, the British ambassador reaffirmed her country’s commitment to continuing support for Yemenis across various sectors and to assisting in the implementation of comprehensive reforms, including improvements in the economy, public services, living standards, and efforts to promote peace and stability in the country.
