Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that malaria and viral diseases continue to pose a significant threat to public health in Yemen. The organization explained that it is currently implementing the second phase of a project to support malaria control, backed by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief).
This initiative covers 15 Yemeni governorates and more than 200 districts, with operations scheduled to continue until February 2028. It aims to enhance prevention services, surveillance, and case management in areas most vulnerable to epidemics, specifically prioritizing high-risk groups such as pregnant women, children, and displaced persons.
Approximately 8.7 million people are expected to benefit from the project through a reduction in infection rates. The WHO emphasized that these diseases remain a major threat, especially in regions heavily impacted by displacement and environmental changes.
