Yemen Affirms Support for Kuwait’s Sovereignty and Rejects Any Infringement on Its Maritime Zones

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its full solidarity with the brotherly State of Kuwait today, Monday, affirming its steadfast support for Kuwait’s full sovereignty over its maritime zones and water elevations.
In a statement, the Ministry affirmed its categorical rejection of any attempt to prejudice Kuwait’s sovereign rights, noting that it has followed with great interest and concern the lists of coordinates and maps recently deposited by the Republic of Iraq with the United Nations.
The Ministry explained that these documents included infringements on Kuwait’s sovereignty over its maritime areas and fixed, established water elevations, particularly in the “Fasht al-Aij” area.
The statement added that the deposited maps also included parts of the submerged divided zone adjacent to the Divided Zone between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, in which Saudi Arabia and Kuwait share ownership of natural resources in accordance with the valid agreements between them.
The Yemeni Foreign Ministry stressed the need for strict adherence to the rules of international law and respect for the sovereignty of states and their internationally recognized borders, citing the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
It also emphasized the necessity of complying with bilateral agreements and memorandums of understanding between Kuwait and Iraq, reflecting the requirements of good neighborliness and the historical brotherly relations that bind the two countries and their brotherly peoples.
