Transport Minister Forms Committee to Review Ticket Prices and Address Frequent Flight Delays

The Minister of Transport, Mr. Mohsen Haidara al-Amri, announced on Monday a series of urgent measures aimed at reforming the air transport system of the national carrier, Yemenia Airways.

In a post on his official account, the Minister emphasized that he has been closely monitoring the recent delays affecting Yemenia flights and the resulting suffering of citizens.

He explained that he has directed the provision of all necessary facilities to passengers and called for teamwork to compensate and ease the burden on those affected. He stressed that delaying any flight for technical reasons is a precautionary measure followed by major international airlines, as passenger safety remains the top priority.

The Minister of Transport revealed strict directives issued to Yemenia Airways to:

  • Enhance technical inspection efficiency for aircraft to ensure maximum readiness.
  • Immediately begin procedures to introduce new aircraft into service to expand the flight network and reduce pressure on the current fleet.
  • Address administrative imbalances that may hinder passenger comfort.

In a related context, the Minister issued Ministerial Decree No. (2) of 2026, which mandates the formation of a high-level committee to review and re-evaluate airfare prices within the Republic.

According to the Minister, the decree obliges the committee to submit its findings and final recommendations within just one week. He directed all relevant authorities to cooperate fully to ensure tasks are completed effectively, preserving the dignity of Yemeni citizens and achieving a more efficient and fair transport system.
