Socotra Governor Raafat Al-Thaqali confirmed on Monday that the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen is working to implement a package of high-quality development projects aimed at improving service delivery and living conditions in the governorate.
In a statement to Al Arabiya channel, Al-Thaqali explained that these projects include a broad focus on the education sector through the construction of four key schools with a capacity of 4,000 students, in addition to establishing a College of Education and a technical institute, which are expected to be inaugurated within two years.
On the services front, Al-Thaqali reassured citizens that the fuel crisis is heading toward an imminent breakthrough, while affirming the continued expansion of the airport and seaport to enhance the island’s connectivity with the world and facilitate trade and tourism.
He noted that the Yemeni archipelago is moving forward with steady steps to prepare infrastructure and receive the largest possible number of tourists. He also highlighted promising investment opportunities on the island, calling on businessmen and companies to invest in the tourism and fisheries sectors.
Al-Thaqali affirmed that the archipelago will witness a development renaissance that will positively impact its residents, more than 20% of whom work across various sectors of the governorate.
He added that this is supported by the archipelago’s unique biodiversity, which includes more than 270 globally rare tree species and 80 species of birds, in addition to 36 terrestrial and marine nature reserves. The local authority, in cooperation with international organizations, is working to rehabilitate these reserves in the best possible manner.
