Abductees’ Mothers Association Demands Accountability for Those Involved in Enforced Disappearance Crimes

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Abductees’ Mothers Association emphasized on Sunday the necessity of holding all those involved in crimes of enforced disappearance and the torture of civilians accountable. The Association stressed that no individual should escape punishment, whether they were involved in establishing secret prisons, managing them, or committing violations within them.

The Association pointed out that the crime of enforced disappearance is considered a grave offense that does not fall under the statute of limitations according to Yemeni law and international conventions, underscoring the importance of implementing justice in a fair and comprehensive manner.

In a related context, the Association called for expediting measures to reveal the fate of all forcibly disappeared persons, in implementation of presidential directives and the instructions of the Attorney General.

It added that these procedures must be carried out under independent judicial supervision and with full transparency to ensure an end to the suffering of the families of the abducted, which has persisted for many years.

The Association concluded its statement by emphasizing the need to take actual and tangible steps on the ground to ensure justice is achieved and to end the suffering of the victims and their families.
