France Affirms Support for Yemen’s Unity, Condemns Houthi Actions, and Calls for Resumption of Political Process

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
France has reaffirmed its position supporting the unity and sovereignty of Yemen, emphasizing its commitment to the authorities of the legitimate government and the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) in the wake of the recent crisis that erupted in the southern and eastern parts of the country.
Paris praised the call issued by the Yemeni President to hold a comprehensive dialogue to resolve the “Southern Issue,” stressing the necessity for the legitimate government and the Presidential Council to remain united and capable of operating in a manner that serves the interests of the Yemeni people.
Regarding Houthi attacks that threaten regional security and maritime navigation, France demanded that the Houthi group cease these hostile acts immediately. It noted its ongoing support for maritime security through its participation in the European Union’s naval mission, “Operation Aspides.”
Paris confirmed its vote in favor of Resolution 2812, which renewed Resolution 2722 concerning security in the Red Sea—a step reflecting its commitment to protecting the freedom of navigation in accordance with international law.
Furthermore, France demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all UN, NGO, and diplomatic mission personnel detained by the Houthis. It categorized these arrests as a blatant violation of international law that obstructs the delivery of essential humanitarian aid and hinders the progress of the political process. Paris emphasized that the continuation of such practices weakens the chances for peace and further complicates the Yemeni crisis.
France concluded its statement by renewing its full support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy, calling on all Yemeni parties to engage in good faith in the resumption of the UN-led political process to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable settlement.
