Dismissal of Yemeni Minister of Defense Following Security Events in Hadramawt and Al-Mahra

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, issued today, Thursday, Decision No. (11) of 2026. Article One of the decision stipulates the dismissal of the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Mohsen Mohammed Al-Daari, from his position and his referral to retirement.

Article Two stipulates that the decision shall take effect from the date of its issuance and be published in the Official Gazette and military bulletins.

This urgent measure comes against the backdrop of recent events in the eastern governorates, where the regions of Hadramawt and Al-Mahra witnessed a wide incursion by forces of the STC arriving from Al-Dhalea and Aden, and their seizure of government military camps. At the same time, the absence of the Minister of Defense from the military scene and his direct responsibilities was noted, as he moved between Egypt and Aden during the crisis.

He also appeared in a meeting with Aidarous Al-Zubaidi following the incursion of those forces into Wadi Hadramawt, while the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government team left Aden for Riyadh after being besieged by STC forces.
