Families of the Forcibly Disappeared in STC Prisons in Aden Demand Disclosure of Their Fate

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Families of the forcibly disappeared in secret prisons belonging to the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Aden (Southwest Yemen) have demanded the disclosure of the detainees’ fates, following years of suffering and waiting without any information regarding their whereabouts.

Tahani, the daughter of the kidnapped Ali Mohsen Shamsan, appealed to the President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, Council member Abdulrahman al-Mahrami, and the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to end her family’s suffering. She called for revealing the fate of her father, who has been missing since 2015 in secret prisons in Aden.

She urged relevant officials to fulfill their humanitarian and moral responsibilities, work urgently to reveal the fate of the forcibly disappeared, grant families their right to know, and release all those against whom no charges have been proven or refer them to a fair trial.

Dozens of families of the disappeared in STC prisons in Aden are living in profound agony due to the lack of disclosure. Human rights organizations have previously documented the existence of secret prisons established by STC-affiliated forces in Aden.

This appeal comes as the Giants Brigade and the Nation’s Shield Forces have taken control of matters in Aden during the camp handover operation launched by the Presidential Leadership Council to displace STC forces from Aden and the southern and eastern governorates of Yemen.
