Shabwa Security Committee Stresses Unity of Command and Praises Coalition Support

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Security Committee in Shabwa Governorate held an important meeting chaired by Awad Mohammed bin Al-Wazir, the governor of the governorate and head of the Security Committee. The meeting reviewed developments in the security situation and the level of security and military readiness across the governorate.

The committee welcomed the statement issued by the Arab Coalition on January 3, 2026, which affirmed the coalition’s commitment to protecting and supporting stability in Shabwa Governorate and the forces present there. The statement also emphasized that no forces would enter the governorate without coordination with the governor, in his capacity as head of the Security Committee.

The committee stressed that all military and security units in the governorate fall directly under the leadership and directives of the governor as head of the Security Committee. It clarified that the top security priority is protecting the frontlines with the Houthi group along Shabwa’s borders with Al-Bayda and Marib governorates.

The committee praised the heroic role played by all military and security units—foremost among them the Giants Brigades, which had the honor of liberating Bayhan districts from the Houthis—alongside the Shabwa Defense Brigades, the army, and public security forces, in securing the fronts and borders of the governorate against any Houthi movements and in maintaining security and stability in Shabwa.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen welcomed the statement issued by Shabwa Governor Awad Mohammed bin Al-Wazir, in which he expressed support for the coalition’s efforts and readiness for joint work to stabilize and secure the governorate and spare it from any strife.

The coalition affirmed that the content of the governor’s statement reflects a clear concern for the public interest and the importance of joint coordination, reiterating its explicit commitment not to deploy any forces into Shabwa Governorate except with full coordination with the local authority represented by the governor.

In the same context, the Saudi ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, described the Shabwa governor’s welcome of holding the conference as a “positive step,” stating that it reflects the southern people’s inclination to preserve the justice of their cause and to discuss it at a comprehensive dialogue table that meets their aspirations.

In a post on the platform “X,” Ambassador Al Jaber said that the Kingdom welcomes all southern leaders who take positive positions that serve their cause and contribute to the success of the conference.
