Rights Network Documents Serious Abuses in Seiyun After STC Takeover

Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has documented alarming developments on the ground and serious violations against civilians and public and private property in the city of Seiyun in Hadramawt province.
These abuses followed the full takeover of the city by forces of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) early yesterday. Large STC units stormed the presidential palace, Seiyun International Airport, the headquarters of the First Military Region, and all key facilities, after sudden orders were issued to the region’s officers instructing them not to resist.
The network documented the storming of homes belonging to officers from northern provinces, the detention of some of them without legal grounds, and looting that targeted commercial shops and private vehicles belonging to government employees.
It also reported that warehouses belonging to the First Military Region were emptied of weapons, and boxes of ammunition were sold off at very low prices by members of the STC forces—a violation the network said poses a threat to security and social stability.
The network expressed deep concern over these abuses, warning of the humanitarian and security consequences of the STC’s control over strategically important Hadramawt. It called for an urgent investigation, protection of civilians, and an immediate halt to the destruction and misuse of property.
