On the Anniversary of the October14th Revolution… “Al-Zubaidi” Reaffirms His Commitment to Secession
Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:
The President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, reiterated on Monday his confirmation to proceed with the project of restoring the southern state, during a popular festival held in Al-Dhale’a province on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the October 14 Revolution. This stance reintroduces the existing contradiction between his participation in the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council and his adherence to the option of secession.
In a speech delivered before crowds of his supporters, Al-Zubaidi described the October Revolution as the “flame of struggle and the source of inspiration for all free people,” affirming that STC is “proceeding on the path to restoring the southern state and building an independent federal South.”
He added: “We will not deviate from our path, and we will not betray the sacrifices of our martyrs. Victory is near, and independence is inevitably coming, with God’s help and success, then by the will of the free people of the South.”
Al-Zubaidi’s speech comes amid escalating popular criticism in Aden and a number of southern provinces over the deterioration of service and economic conditions.
Al-Zubaidi, who advocates for the secession of southern Yemen from the north, participates within the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, which was formed in 2022 under the Riyadh Agreement as a framework for political partnership among forces opposing the Houthis. This reflects the continuing divergence within the Council between the path of unity and the option of secession.
Yemen marks on Tuesday the 62nd anniversary of the October 14 Revolution, which started from the Radfan Mountains against the British colonization in southern Yemen and led to the withdrawal of the last British soldier on November 30, 1967. The revolution remains a symbol of national unity and the struggle for independence and sovereignty.
