Security Decision in Taiz Prohibits Children from Traveling Without Their Parents Following an Increase in Kidnapping Incidents

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Security Committee in Taiz governorate on Saturday issued a decision prohibiting children from traveling through the governorate’s checkpoints without being accompanied by their guardians. This measure is part of a preventive effort to protect minors amid a rise in child kidnapping incidents.

In a joint statement, Taiz Axis Command and the General Directorate of Police for the governorate clarified that the decision aims to enhance public security and ensure the safety of children. It emphasized that all transport drivers are obligated to verify the identity of a child’s guardian before allowing them to depart.

The statement pointed out that any driver who violates this directive will be immediately referred to criminal investigation for legal action. It also stressed that the decision is effective immediately upon its issuance, and all security and community agencies must strictly adhere to its implementation.

This step follows a recent increase in child kidnapping incidents in various areas of Taiz. Previously, such incidents were primarily concentrated in areas controlled by the Houthi militia during past years of conflict.
