Family of Forcibly Disappeared Yemeni Student in Pakistan Issues Urgent Appeal to Presidential Council and Government

Yemen Monitor | Newsroom:
The family of Yemeni researcher Khaled Ahmed Al-Sharaabi, head of the Yemeni Students Union in Pakistan, has issued an urgent appeal to the Presidential Leadership Council and the legitimate government, calling for immediate intervention to uncover his fate—more than three months after his forcible disappearance in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.
In a statement, the family said that Al-Sharaabi was arrested on the evening of Tuesday, April 22, 2025, under mysterious circumstances, with no information on the entity behind the arrest or his place of detention, and that he has been denied contact with his family or a lawyer—a clear violation of international law and human rights principles.
The statement added that since the disappearance, the family has been living in constant anxiety over his life and physical and mental well-being, amid official silence and neglect of their plight. They urged the Presidential Council and government to act swiftly and engage with Pakistani authorities to determine his whereabouts and secure his release.
The family emphasized that in addition to being a PhD student, Khaled was a well-known union activist who served his fellow students, organized national events, and was a vocal supporter of Yemen’s legitimate government. They called on officials to fulfill their constitutional and moral responsibilities toward a fellow Yemeni citizen abroad.
The statement concluded with a heartfelt plea:
“We place great hope in our leadership and trust in your ability to end this nightmare endured by his wife and young daughter, and to rescue Khaled from this unknown fate.”
