White Flag Envoys Camp Along Frontline at Aqabat Tharah Road Between Abyan and Al-Bayda, Pressing to Reopen Route

Yemen Monitor –Newsroom:
A group known as the “White Flag Envoys” has set up camp along the frontline at the midpoint of Aqabat Tharah, the strategic mountain road linking the provinces of Abyan and Al-Bayda in southern Yemen. Their move is part of a civilian-led initiative aimed at pressuring all parties to reopen the critical roadway, which has remained closed due to ongoing military tensions.
The group, waving white flags as a symbol of peace and neutrality, has drawn attention to the humanitarian and economic suffering caused by the road closure. Residents from both sides of the divide have long demanded the reopening of Aqabat Tharah, which serves as a vital link for travel, trade, and emergency access between the southern and central regions.
By positioning themselves directly on the line of contact, the White Flag Envoys hope to draw national and international attention to the issue and to urge warring factions to prioritize civilian needs over military calculations.
Their peaceful demonstration adds to growing grassroots pressure across Yemen for the reopening of key routes, as part of broader demands for de-escalation, reconciliation, and restoration of essential infrastructure.
