Yemeni Presidential Council Member Al-Subaihi Urges Residents of Houthi Areas to Reject Conscription

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

On Friday, Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council member Mahmoud Al-Subaihi addressed messages to residents in areas under the control of the Houthi group, calling them to reject the recruitment of their children into what he described as “absurd wars.” He accused the group of attempting to export its internal crises by targeting Saudi Arabia and executing an Iranian agenda that threatens the security of the region.

Al-Subaihi stated that citizens in Houthi-controlled areas pay the heaviest price due to the continuation of the coup, pointing to deteriorating services, ongoing arbitrary arrests, and the detention of UN and international organization staff, alongside what he described as the “sweeping” of the education and media sectors to impose sectarian and dynastic ideologies.

He urged tribes and families in those areas not to allow their children to be pushed to the fighting fronts, emphasizing that the Houthi project seeks to entrench guardianship and return Yemen to “eras of tyranny,” as he put it, and urged them to rally around the project of the state and the republic, and to demand the release of detainees and an end to discriminatory policies.

In his message to the residents of the liberated areas, Al-Subaihi said that the confrontation with the Houthis “is not a political conflict, but rather a battle to defend the state and the republic,” calling for reinforcing the rule of law, preserving civil peace, and unifying the national ranks.

He affirmed that the Yemeni government remains committed to the path of restoring state institutions and ending the coup, in accordance with the agreed-upon references, foremost among which are the Gulf Initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue, and UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

Al-Subaihi accused the Houthi group of attempting to escape its internal crises by targeting Saudi Arabia, considering that the recent escalation comes within the framework of implementing an “Iranian agenda” aimed at expanding the conflict in the region.

Conversely, he praised the support provided by Saudi Arabia to Yemen at the political, economic, and humanitarian levels, stressing that this support has contributed to enhancing the capacity of state institutions, alleviating the suffering of Yemenis, and embodying the depth of relations between the two countries.
