Houthis Reject Jordan’s Initiative to Resume Flights to Sana’a Airport
Yemen Monitor / Sana’a / Special Report:
The Houthi group has rejected Jordan’s initiative to resume commercial flights to Sana’a International Airport, an effort intended to help defuse the conflict in Yemen. The move signals a further escalation by the armed group against the internationally recognized Yemeni government and Saudi Arabia.
Abdulwahid Abu Ras, the Houthis’ deputy foreign minister in the group’s internationally unrecognized administration, said that announcements by certain airlines about resuming flights to Sana’a Airport were “their own affair and merely trivial grandstanding at a sensitive time.”
Abu Ras added that the group has decided to “secure all of its rights, not just air services, without begging anyone.”
Earlier, Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it is completing the necessary procedures to launch Royal Jordanian flights to Sana’a International Airport. Meanwhile, the Yemeni government warned the Houthis against rejecting the humanitarian initiative.
