Yemeni Government Warns Houthis Against Undermining Jordan’s Initiative
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Yemeni government welcomed, on Friday, the humanitarian initiative launched by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to resume flights between Sana’a and Amman, confirming its readiness to provide all necessary facilities for its success.
The government stated, in a statement, that the initiative stems from humanitarian considerations that contribute to alleviating the suffering of citizens, emphasizing its commitment to protecting the interests of Yemenis while maintaining state sovereignty and its exclusive jurisdiction in managing airspace and airports.
It added that the initiative aligns with previous proposals presented by the government to operate Sana’a Airport in a legal and secure manner via the national carrier, “Yemenia Airways,” to any agreed-upon destination, ensuring service to all citizens in accordance with national and international laws.
In contrast, the government warned the Houthi group against “missing this humanitarian opportunity,” calling on it to abandon what it described as mobilization and escalatory rhetoric, and to engage in responsible steps that enhance peace opportunities and put the interests of citizens first.
The government affirmed that the armed forces and security apparatuses will remain in a state of readiness to deal with any escalation by the Houthis, and to deter any threat affecting the country’s sovereignty, security, or stability.
Earlier, Royal Jordanian Airlines announced that it is working to complete the necessary technical and logistical procedures in preparation for resuming its flights to the Yemeni capital, Sana’a.
Meanwhile, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced that Royal Jordanian Airlines will commence the implementation of an initiative to operate regular commercial flights between Amman and Sana’a, in response to humanitarian needs in Yemen and in support of Saudi Arabia’s efforts aimed at supporting the peace track.
The Ministry said, in a statement, that the step comes as an implementation of previous understandings regarding the reactivation of commercial flights between Jordan and Yemen, confirming that technical and logistical procedures are currently being finalized in preparation for launching the flights.
