Transport Minister Directs Shipping Lines to Move Stranded Yemeni Traders’ Containers to Aden Port

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Yemeni Minister of Transport, Mohsen Haidara Al-Omari, has instructed maritime agencies operating in the country to contact shipping lines—particularly Peak Shipping Line—and require them to transport Yemeni traders’ containers that remain stranded at ports in several countries across the region to the Port of Aden, in accordance with the contracts and agreements concluded with the cargo owners.
The minister’s directive came in response to complaints submitted by a number of traders regarding the continued detention of their containers at foreign ports, which has resulted in financial losses and delays in delivering goods to local markets.
In an official memorandum, Al-Omari affirmed that the Ministry of Transport is closely monitoring the status of the stranded shipments, stressing the need for shipping lines to honor their contractual commitments and ensure that the containers are transported to their final destination without delay or obstruction.
He added that the ministry will spare no effort in taking the necessary measures to protect the rights of Yemeni traders, ensure the smooth flow of trade and imports, and address any obstacles affecting the movement of goods through Yemeni ports, thereby supporting commercial activity and easing the burden on the private sector.
