Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Yemeni Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Dr. Shaya al-Zindani, met with Patrick Simonnet, Head of the EU Mission to Yemen, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the two sides and expand development support programs for Yemen, as the government seeks to implement economic and institutional reforms while addressing public service challenges.

According to statements released by both parties, the talks focused on opportunities to deepen partnership with the EU in support of government efforts to improve the performance of state institutions and enhance essential public services. The discussions also explored mechanisms for increasing funding for development projects and capacity-building programs.

The meeting further addressed political and security developments in Yemen and the wider region, including threats posed by Houthi attacks on shipping routes in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait, as well as international and regional efforts aimed at advancing the peace process.

Al-Zindani stated that the government is moving forward with a package of economic and administrative reforms while simultaneously addressing service-related challenges, particularly the electricity crisis. He noted that regional and international support remains an important factor in strengthening the capacity of government institutions to meet their obligations and improve services for citizens.

He added that the government looks forward to expanding areas of cooperation with the EU in the coming period and benefiting from international initiatives designed to support Yemen’s economy and promote recovery and stability.

For his part, Simonnet reaffirmed the European Union’s continued support for the Yemeni government and its reform agenda. He emphasized the EU’s commitment to ongoing cooperation in the developmental and economic sectors in ways that contribute to stability and improved living conditions across the country.
