Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, concluded a meeting in the Jordanian capital, Amman, which included representatives from the Military Coordination Committee of the Yemeni government and the Joint Forces Command, as part of UN efforts aimed at de-escalation and advancing the peace process in the country.
The UN Envoy’s office said on Wednesday that the participants discussed the latest developments in Yemen and the region, focusing on ceasefire arrangements, maritime security, and de-escalation steps, building on previous meetings held within the framework of the Military Coordination Committee’s work.
The statement quoted Grundberg as saying that this type of engagement under UN auspices remains “critically important” given a rapidly evolving and unpredictable security environment in Yemen and the region.
He added that maintaining a serious and productive dialogue within the Military Coordination Committee, along with other channels, could tangibly support broader efforts aimed at making progress toward a lasting peace in Yemen.
The UN Envoy’s office indicated that, based on the parties’ commitment, it intends to convene a meeting including the three delegations of the Military Coordination Committee in the coming period, in a step aimed at enhancing communication among the concerned parties and continuing the discussion of military and security issues related to de-escalation efforts.
The Military Coordination Committee is one of the mechanisms arising from the UN truce announced in April 2022, and it includes representatives from the Yemeni government, the Houthi group, and the Joint Forces Command, with the aim of addressing military and security issues and supporting commitment to de-escalation measures.
