“Yemeni Journalists” Condemn Arbitrary Detention of Amjad Al-Rami in Hadramawt, Demand Immediate Release

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate – Hadramawt, Shabwa, Al-Mahrah, and Socotra branch – strongly condemned the arbitrary measures taken against colleague Amjad Salem Al-Rami, which involved his detention by security forces in Ghayl Ba Wazir district on the coast of Hadramawt without legal justification or adherence to the standard legal procedures governing publication cases.

The Syndicate noted Al-Rami’s transfers since his detention a week ago, including his move to the Criminal Investigation Department prison in Mukalla and then to the Central Prison, describing this as unjustified escalation against press freedoms and a blatant violation of the freedom of opinion and expression guaranteed by the constitution and the law.

The Syndicate called on local and security authorities in Hadramawt Governorate to intervene urgently and release colleague Al-Rami immediately and unconditionally, and to stop all forms of harassment against journalists and those who speak out. It stressed the need to respect the laws regulating journalistic work, and not to treat publication issues as criminal offenses requiring arrest, but rather to refer them to the competent judiciary in accordance with the Press and Publications Law.

The Syndicate also called on local and international human rights and civil organizations to show solidarity with colleague Al-Rami and to pressure for the protection of press freedoms and to guarantee the right of journalists to obtain and publish information without threat or persecution.
