Rain and Storms Hit Displacement Camps in Al-Jawf, 1,370 Families Affected

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Executive Unit for the Management of Displacement Camps announced on Friday evening that approximately 1,370 displaced families have been affected by a wave of heavy rain and severe storms that struck displacement camps in Al-Jawf Governorate, northern Yemen, amid warnings of a humanitarian catastrophe impacting children and women.
In a statement seen by “Yemen Monitor,” the unit stated that “the rain and thunderstorms witnessed in the governorate have caused extensive damage to the property and shelters of displaced families.”
The statement clarified that preliminary statistics indicate:
- Total damage: 508 families have completely lost their shelters and belongings and are now living in the open.
- Partial damage: 862 families whose tents and living necessities were damaged due to the wind and rain.
The unit pointed out that many families are currently living in “extremely harsh humanitarian conditions” after losing their basic shelter essentials.
The government body issued an urgent distress call to international, local, and UN organizations, demanding “rapid and emergency intervention” to rescue the stricken families and provide essential needs.
In conclusion, the Executive Unit warned of “serious repercussions” that may threaten the lives of vulnerable groups, especially children, women, and the elderly, if humanitarian response from international partners is delayed.
