Flood Death Toll Rises to 9 as Search for Missing Continues in Southwestern Yemen

The death toll from flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall in Taiz Governorate, southwestern Yemen, has risen to nine people, while several residents remain missing, local authorities reported on Friday.

The official Yemen News Agency clarified that the Al-Najiba area in Maqbanah District was the most effected, where floods resulted in five deaths and damage to approximately 50 homes.

The Director General of the district, Sultan Mahmoud, stated that emergency teams are working to clear roads and ensure rescue teams can reach affected residents amid the ongoing rainfall.

In Mauza District, sources confirmed the deaths of three people by drowning, alongside extensive damage to homes, as search operations for the missing continue.

Authorities have issued warnings to residents to stay away from flood-prone streams and valleys, while emergency teams remain on high alert to deal with the repercussions of the current weather conditions.
