Human Rights Report: More than 5,000 Houthi Violations Against Women in Yemen Since 2017

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms stated that the Houthi group committed (5,834) violations against women in Yemen during the period from January 1, 2017, until the end of 2025, across 15 Yemeni governorates.
In a recent report issued on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Network mentioned that the violations affecting women varied between killing, injury, abduction, enforced disappearance, and physical and psychological torture, in addition to dismissal from public jobs and forced recruitment.
According to the report, the Network’s field team documented (1,479) cases of killing and (3,398) cases of injury among women as a result of artillery and missile shelling, and the explosion of mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), in addition to sniping and the firing of live ammunition.
The report also recorded (547) cases of abduction, enforced disappearance, and torture, in addition to (176) cases of forced recruitment of women and girls, including students.
The report indicated that Taiz Governorate topped the list of governorates most affected by killings involving women, followed by the governorates of Al-Hudaydah, Aden, Lahj, Marib, Al-Jawf, Ad-Dali’, and Abyan, while the remaining cases were distributed across other governorates.
The report revealed that (274) women were killed as a result of the explosion of landmines planted by Houthi militias in public roads, residential neighborhoods, farms, grazing areas, and markets, with the highest number of cases recorded in the governorates of Taiz, Al-Jawf, Al-Hudaydah, and Ad-Dali’.
Regarding sniping crimes, the report documented (124) cases of women killed by Houthi snipers in nine Yemeni governorates, led by Taiz Governorate with (68) cases, followed by the governorates of Al-Hudaydah and Aden.
The report also monitored (91) cases of killing by direct gunfire committed by the militias against women in 16 governorates, in addition to (46) other cases of killing in various incidents including stabbing, being run over by military vehicles, and physical assaults.
Regarding violations inside prisons, the Network documented (78) cases of torture of women detained in Houthi-affiliated prisons, where they were subjected to various forms of torture and cruel and degrading treatment, including harassment, sexual assaults, and fabricated charges affecting their honor, according to the testimonies of a number of survivors.
The report also revealed (69) cases of enforced disappearance of women after being abducted by the militias, where they were held in secret prisons for periods ranging from three months to a full year before the fate of some was revealed, while the fate of others remains unknown until now.
The report also pointed out the injury of (314) women by sniper fire and (317) women by direct gunfire, in addition to (211) other cases of injury resulting from physical assaults, stabbing, or being run over by military vehicles, as well as (486) women suffering from permanent disabilities due to landmine explosions.
