The Minister of Transport in the Yemeni government, Mohsen Al-Amri, discussed the operational progress and performance development of ports with Fuad Al-Rubaki, Deputy Chairman of the Arabian Sea Ports Corporation, and Dr. Abdulmalik Al-Sharaabi, Director of Mokha Port.
The Minister highlighted the government’s keenness to activate the “Single Window” system at Mokha Port and other maritime outlets to curb corruption, streamline procedures, and bolster the state budget with public revenues. He noted that this is part of a comprehensive plan to develop the maritime and land transport sectors at Mokha Port and all maritime and land ports across the country, ensuring improved performance, enhanced transparency, and a reduction in smuggling operations.
He affirmed that the Ministry will provide all forms of support and facilities to the Mokha Port administration to strengthen the capabilities of its staff and enable them to perform their duties efficiently, given the vital role the port plays in serving the liberated governorates, primarily Taiz.
In a related context, the Minister of Transport discussed with the Deputy Chairman of the Arabian Sea Ports Corporation the technical and economic studies for several key projects:
- Burum Port in Hadramawt Governorate.
- Qana Port in Shabwah Governorate.
- Qarma Port in the Socotra Archipelago.
- The expansion project for Mukalla Port and the facilities and privileges offered to shipping lines and importers.
The Minister stressed the need to accelerate the pace of work on these vital projects and activate relevant agreements and grants, whether through self-funding or donor support.
Furthermore, the Minister directed the immediate provision of safety and security equipment at Socotra Port following a recent ship fire incident. He emphasized the importance of reinforcing maritime safety measures and activating inspection and control systems for incoming ships and cargo to ensure the protection of lives and property and maintain the safety of maritime operations across all Yemeni outlets.
