Detainee Released After Two and a Half Years in Tariq Saleh’s Prisons in Mokha

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

National Resistance forces, led by Presidential Leadership Council member Tariq Saleh, released Salah al-Hammadi on Thursday after more than two and a half years of detention.

Individuals close to al-Hammadi reported that his release came from one of the prisons in Mokha, west of Taiz governorate (southwest Yemen), where Tariq Saleh’s forces are based. They confirmed the authorities’ inability to convict him or refer him to the prosecution, asserting that the charges promoted against him were fabricated.

The case of Salah al-Hammadi witnessed media and public activism recently, with several organizations demanding his release amid reports of secret prisons in Mokha operating under the authority of Ammar Saleh, the brother of presidential council member Tariq.

It is noteworthy that al-Hammadi was arrested in mid-2023 by the Security Belt forces affiliated with the now-dissolved, UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council. He was then handed over to Tariq Saleh’s forces stationed in Mokha, west of Taiz.
