Human Rights Report Documents Over 6,000 Arrests in Yemen in 2025

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

A human rights report revealed the monitoring of 6,417 cases of arbitrary detention during the year 2025, with the Houthi group ranking first, followed by formations of the Southern Transitional Council (STC).

The report, titled “The Painful Reality and Years of Deprivation – Yemen 2025” and issued by the Irrada organization, detailed a horrifying tally of grave violations against civilians during the past year. The Houthis carried out a fierce campaign in September alone, targeting 4,785 abductees, including 217 children detained in violation of juvenile law.

The report documented the STC (dissolved) committing 1,125 cases of arbitrary arrest, primarily concentrated in the governorates of Hadramawt, Aden, and Lahj.

It also recorded the killing of 24 detainees inside prisons, with 12 killed by the Houthis, 7 by STC formations, and the rest dying due to deliberate medical negligence. The report pointed to the existence of a wide network of secret prisons lacking the minimum humanitarian standards.

Documented cases of enforced disappearance reached 341, with the Houthis accounting for 82% of them, compared to 10.59% by STC formations.

Additionally, the report noted that the Houthis were responsible for 83% of killings at checkpoints and during home raids, while it recorded 32 killed, 19 cases of field executions, and 218 injured due to the invasion of Mukalla, Seiyun, and Wadi Hadramawt cities by STC formations.
