Photos and Documents Reveal a “Mass Grave” for Heavy Weapons off the Coast of Mukalla

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

In a first-of-its-kind disclosure since 2016, photos and visual documents reveal a systematic operation to destroy the military arsenal of the Second Military Region, in which tanks, armored vehicles, and heavy artillery were deliberately disposed of at sea off the coast of Al-Rayyan Beach.

The information indicates that the operation began after Emirati forces entered the city of Mukalla on April 24, 2016, when directives were issued by Emirati officers to the Elite forces to permanently dispose of heavy weapons and prevent local forces from possessing them.

According to the documents, the military equipment was dumped into the sea and buried beneath breakwater rocks to conceal their features and ensure they could not be recovered in the future. This reflects a systematic approach to dismantling the Yemeni army’s capabilities and turning its defensive weapons into wreckage beneath the waves.

This revelation serves as compelling visual evidence of the scale of damage inflicted on Yemen’s military arsenal during that period and raises questions about the impact of these practices on local defensive capabilities.
