Ministry of Endowments Condemns Houthi Demolition of Historic “Al-Mashhad” Mosque Wall in Sana’a

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Ministry of Endowments and Guidance in the Yemeni government condemned the Houthi group for demolishing the wall of the historic Al-Mashhad Mosque in Musayk neighborhood of Sana’a in order to convert the site into commercial shops.

In a statement, the ministry described the act as a crime targeting an ancient Islamic landmark founded by the Companion (Sahabi) Farwa bin Musayk Al-Muradi.

The statement explained that this attack falls within a series of violations that have previously targeted mosques such as Al-Nahrayn and Al-Firdous, with the aim of seizing endowment properties and turning them into commercial markets, in blatant disregard for the sanctity of holy sites.

It also denounced the Houthis’ suppression of protests by neighborhood residents through live gunfire and intimidation, holding Houthi leaders fully responsible for this systematic destruction of religious heritage.

The ministry called on international organizations concerned with the protection of cultural heritage to intervene to stop these sectarian practices, affirming that it will continue to expose these violations until state institutions are restored and houses of worship are protected from abuse.
