Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, warned that security chaos, the proliferation of power centers, and the legitimization of weapons outside the framework of the state create an ideal environment for the growth of extremist groups and foster gray areas where militias of all forms intersect with the objectives of terrorist organizations.
This came during his meeting on Monday with Mr. Tobias Tünkel, the Special Envoy of the German Foreign Ministry for the Middle East, Near East, and North Africa, and Mr. Thomas Schneider, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Yemen.
The meeting addressed the longstanding bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, ways to develop them across all fields, and the priorities for German and European support needed to enhance the capabilities of the Yemeni government in imposing security and stability and building peace.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council highly valued the supportive stance of the Federal Republic of Germany towards Yemen, its unity, and its stability, as well as its significant contributions to the humanitarian response plan as one of the largest European donors. He noted that this steadfast German support embodies a moral commitment to the Yemeni people, who are facing one of the largest humanitarian crises in the modern era.
The meeting also touched upon the false narratives that have been promoted to justify unilateral actions in Hadramawt and Al-Mahra under the pretext of combating terrorism. He emphasized that the Yemeni case, like many others in the region, proves that supporting militias not under state control does not combat terrorism but rather reproduces it.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council further warned that any attempt to expand hotspots of tension or create new platforms threatening the security of neighboring countries or maritime waterways is not merely a local adventure but a gamble with global energy security and supply chains, posing a real threat to international peace and security.
His Excellency pointed out in this context that Yemen, by virtue of its geographical location, is not a peripheral arena, and any chaos within it will quickly reflect on the security of maritime shipping through the Red Sea, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and subsequently on Europe and the entire world.
Al-Alimi praised the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from Operation Decisive Storm which prevented the state from falling into the grip of the Iranian regime, through Operation Restoring Hope, and up to the recent de-escalation efforts.
His Excellency considered this moment a rare opportunity for the international community in Yemen, with the presence of a single, reliable partner and accountable institutions, instead of dealing with uncontrollable militias. He affirmed that supporting the Yemeni state politically, economically, and humanely is support for the security and stability of the region and the world.
