Measures to Reopen Seiyun International Airport and Assess Readiness for Flight Resumption

The local authority in Hadramawt Governorate has begun taking measures to reopen Seiyun International Airport, as part of efforts to resume flights and alleviate the suffering of citizens, following the looting it endured during the period when the Southern Transitional Council (STC) controlled Seiyun.

The Deputy Governor of Hadramawt for Valley and Desert District Affairs, Amer Al-Amiri, along with the Advisor to the Hadramawt Governor, Saqaf Al-Kaf, conducted a field visit to the airport today to assess the level of technical readiness and the ongoing work to address the damage sustained by the infrastructure and technical equipment.

Deputy Governor Al-Amiri received a briefing from the Director-General of Seiyun International Airport, Ali Bakathir, on the measures being taken to rehabilitate the damaged facilities and the state of preparedness for resuming flights in accordance with approved safety standards. The visit also included discussions on urgent measures and phased plans to expedite the reopening, as well as temporary alternatives to ensure the continuity of navigational services.

Al-Amiri emphasized the importance of Seiyun International Airport as a vital and strategic facility serving Hadramawt and Yemen at large. He stressed the need for concerted efforts from all relevant parties to complete the rehabilitation and reopening work as soon as possible, ensuring aviation safety and service continuity, which will help alleviate the suffering of citizens, especially patients and travelers.
