Yemen Monitor / Riyadh / Exclusive:
The Yemeni community in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced on Sunday its full support for the decisions of the National Defense Council aimed at protecting civilians and upholding state authority in Hadramawt and Al-Mahra governorates. It also expressed welcome for the message delivered by Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, which emphasized Yemen’s security and stability.
This came in a statement issued by the Yemeni community, the first of its kind, expressing endorsement of the measures resulting from the National Defense Council meeting chaired by Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council. The measures focus on safeguarding national sovereignty and rejecting any attempts to impose a political or military reality by force of arms outside the framework of transitional phase reference agreements.
In the statement, the Secretary-General of the community, Hussein Ali Bahamil, praised “the steadfast positions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its continuous efforts in supporting the Yemeni people to face security and political challenges.” He noted that Prince Khalid bin Salman’s message embodies brotherly concern for protecting Yemeni state institutions and confronting projects that threaten regional security.
The community stressed that the steps taken by the Yemeni leadership, with support from the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, are a “strategic necessity” serving Arab national security and reflect the depth of historical ties between the two brotherly countries in confronting attempts to undermine societal peace in liberated areas.
The statement also indicated that the popular and public rallying around the National Defense Council’s decisions sends a clear message of rejection against being drawn into side conflicts that weaken the national front and serve the agendas of coup and sabotage forces.
The National Defense Council’s decisions come at a sensitive time as Hadramawt and Al-Mahra governorates witness escalating political and security tensions, along with attempts by the Southern Transitional Council to impose de facto authority as part of separatist plans. The stance of the Yemeni community in Saudi Arabia—the largest and most influential abroad—represents political weight supporting the legitimacy of the Presidential Leadership Council in its efforts to unify the internal front and stabilize the strategically and economically significant eastern governorates.
