STC Reiterates Openness to Conditional Military Arrangements

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Southern Transitional Council (STC) has reiterated its openness to any political or military arrangements, conditioned on their basis being to ensure the protection, security, and stability of the South, as well as the unity and integrity of its territories, and that they meet the aspirations of southerners, in its own words.

The Council downplayed the stance of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the military movements in Hadramawt and Al Mahra provinces, describing it as “differences” which it said it is working to address in coordination with the United Arab Emirates to unify viewpoints, thereby enhancing partnership within the coalition framework.

This came during a meeting of the STC’s Supreme Executive Leadership on Saturday, which reviewed military and political developments. The Council affirmed that what has been achieved in the eastern provinces, within what it termed the “Promising Future” operation, aims to consolidate security and combat smuggling. This step is seen as a response to pressures demanding the withdrawal of its forces from those provinces.

The STC’s website stated that the meeting, chaired by STC President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi and attended by Abdulrahman Al-Muharrami, commander of the Giants Brigades and Vice President of the STC, discussed securing services for citizens and the Bank’s efforts in price control and salary disbursements.

The spokesperson for the Coalition Supporting Legitimacy, Turki Al-Maliki, had previously stated that military movements violating de-escalation efforts would be addressed, with the aim of protecting civilians.

Additionally, Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman said in a message addressed to the Yemeni people today that the events witnessed in Hadramawt and Al Mahra provinces since the beginning of December 2025 have fractured ranks in confronting the enemy and harmed the just southern cause. He emphasized that the time has come to end the escalation and for the forces of the STC to peacefully withdraw from the camps and hand them over to the Homeland Shield forces and local authorities.
