Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:
Egypt affirmed its full support for the unity and sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen and its commitment to the integrity of its territories, emphasizing the importance of de-escalation and preventing the deterioration of the situation to contribute to enhancing regional security and stability.
In a statement issued today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs stated that Egypt is following the ongoing developments in Yemen with great interest, expressing its appreciation for the regional efforts being made to de-escalate tensions and create suitable conditions for the restoration of stability. This, the ministry noted, would positively impact regional security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
The statement affirmed Egypt’s steadfast position in supporting legitimacy in Yemen and its keenness to preserve the institutions of the national state and safeguard the resources of the brotherly Yemeni people. This, it said, paves the way for a comprehensive settlement that meets the aspirations of Yemenis for security, stability, and development.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry pointed out that Cairo relies on the efforts led by regional parties to support de-escalation and truce paths, which preserve Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity and advance a comprehensive political solution.
In the same context, a phone call took place between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty and his Yemeni counterpart, Dr. Shaya Al-Zindani. The call discussed the current situation in Yemen and the efforts being made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates towards de-escalation and achieving security and stability.
During the call, the Foreign Minister reiterated Egypt’s welcome of the agreement concerning the exchange of prisoners and detainees in Yemen, considering it a positive step that contributes to creating a favorable climate for resuming the path of a comprehensive political settlement.
