Security Council Calls on STC to Halt Escalation and Reaffirms Support for Yemen’s Unity and Sovereignty

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Members of the United Nations Security Council have called on the Southern Transitional Council (STC) to halt escalation and refrain from taking steps that would complicate the political landscape. At the same time, they reaffirmed their strong commitment to Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and their full support for international efforts to end the conflict and achieve lasting peace.
The UN Security Council members reiterated their support for the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen and their commitment to working collectively towards a comprehensive political solution that brings lasting peace and prosperity to the Yemeni people.
The Council members stressed that continued escalation in Yemen, including recent developments (in Hadramawt and Al-Mahra), does not contribute to any progress towards a political settlement. Instead, it complicates the situation and increases civilian suffering. They called on all parties, including the Southern Transitional Council, to prioritize dialogue and adhere to the political track.
The Security Council also called for an immediate halt to the escalation and encouraged enhanced diplomatic efforts by all Yemeni parties and regional stakeholders to support the UN-led peace efforts.
The members reaffirmed their strong and continued support for efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive political settlement and ending the suffering of the Yemeni people. They reiterated their unwavering commitment to Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and their support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government.
In a related context, Security Council members expressed their grave condemnation of the Houthi group’s continued detention of staff from the United Nations system, national and international non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, and diplomatic missions.
The Council demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees, emphasizing that any threats targeting humanitarian workers are unacceptable and directly contribute to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
