Yemeni Army: Southern Transitional Council Holding Bodies of “Martyrs” from the First Military Region

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Yemeni Ministry of Defense said armed groups affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) are still holding the bodies of a number of soldiers from the First Military Region, in what it described as a clear violation of humanitarian norms and international law, despite the time that has passed since the events in Hadramawt governorate.

In a statement, the ministry explained that the bodies of several of those killed were previously buried in the city of Seiyun by their families, while the bodies of other soldiers remain in the custody of STC-affiliated groups, constituting a breach of humanitarian customs and international legal standards.

The Yemeni army said these practices represent a dangerous escalation, holding the Southern Transitional Council fully responsible for the safety of the detained bodies and calling for their immediate release and handover to the families.
