Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s (KSrelief) “MASAM” project continues its field operations to clear Yemeni territory of landmines, successfully removing 699 explosive devices during the second week of December. According to project reports, all recovered items were planted by Houthi militias across various regions of the country.
In a formal statement, the project detailed the types of ordnance neutralized this week:
- 1 Anti-personnel mine
- 74 Anti-tank mines
- 619 Unexploded ordnances (UXO)
- 5 Improvised explosive devices (IEDs)
This latest figure brings the total number of mines and explosives removed since the beginning of December to 1,732.
Since the inception of the MASAM project, engineering teams have successfully cleared a total of 528,192 mines and unexploded ordnances. The statement noted that these explosives were planted indiscriminately by Houthi forces throughout Yemen, posing a lethal threat to civilians—specifically women, children, and the elderly—while instilling fear in peaceful communities.
MASAM continues its field efforts in cooperation with local and international entities, aimed at enhancing safety and protecting civilian lives, as well as clearing more Yemeni areas to facilitate the safe return of residents to their homes.
