Saudi-Emirati Delegation Arrives in Aden Amid Rising Tensions in Eastern Yemen

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
A Saudi-Emirati delegation arrived on Friday at the Presidential Palace in the interim Yemeni capital, Aden. The arrival comes days after the Southern Transitional Council (STC) seized control of the governorates of Hadhramawt and Al-Mahra, and the departure of the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), Rashad Al-Alimi, to the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
This visit occurs while a separate Saudi delegation began on December 3, led by Major General Dr. Mohammed bin Obaid Al-Qahtani, continues to hold a series of extensive meetings with local authority leaders, tribal figures, and parliamentary members in Hadhramawt governorate.
The focus of the Hadhramawt meetings is on de-escalation efforts, enhancing security, and empowering the people of Hadhramawt to manage their local institutions.
These moves take place against the backdrop of the UAE’s support for the Southern Transitional Council (STC), which advocates for secession. The STC has reportedly rejected Saudi mediation efforts to withdraw its forces from Hadhramawt and Al-Mahra and return them to their barracks, thereby escalating tensions in southern Yemen.
