Yemeni Parliament: We Absolutely Reject Unilateral Actions in the Eastern Provinces

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Yemeni House of Representatives (Parliament) issued a strongly worded statement on Wednesday, affirming its unwavering commitment to constitutional and national frameworks and its complete rejection of any military movements or unilateral actions outside the scope of national consensus and binding political agreements. This marks its first official position since the outbreak of recent tensions in the eastern provinces.

In its statement, the Council stated that the events witnessed in recent days in the eastern provinces represent a “clear violation” of the Riyadh Agreement and the Power Transfer Declaration. It considered the movement of military forces and the imposition of new realities on the ground a serious overreach of the powers of the Presidential Leadership Council as the supreme commander of the armed forces, and a clear breach of constitutional principles and national partnership.

The House of Representatives warned that the continuation of these movements would push the country into a “danger zone,” leading to internal clashes that weaken the national front and grant the Houthis additional opportunities to exploit division. It stressed that the language of force cannot be a substitute for dialogue.

The statement emphasized the necessity of immediately canceling all unilateral measures, calling on all parties to return to peaceful solutions and strictly adhere to the frameworks governing the transitional phase, foremost among them Riyadh Agreement and the Power Transfer Declaration.

The Council also issued a clear call to the Arab coalition countries, led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, to continue supporting constitutional legitimacy and confronting any steps outside the framework of understandings. It praised the significant efforts of the Saudi team, led by Major General Dr. Muhammad Obaid Al-Qahtani, in containing tensions and preserving Yemen’s unity and stability.

Parliament called on the international community and the sponsoring states of the political process to take a firm stance rejecting unilateral actions and protecting the country from political and security pitfalls that could exacerbate the economic and humanitarian situation.

The House of Representatives concluded its statement by affirming that the unity of state institutions – both military and civilian – is the only way to enhance security and stability and preserve the resources and national sovereignty of the Yemeni people.
