Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:
A group of Yemeni political parties and factions issued a statement late Tuesday expressing deep concern over recent developments in the governorates of Shabwa, Hadramawt, and Al-Mahrah, warning against attempts by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) to impose new realities outside the framework of state legitimacy and institutions.
The statement followed a meeting between Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Chairman Dr. Rashad al-Alimi and ambassadors of countries sponsoring the political process, attended by the Prime Minister.
The parties affirmed their complete rejection of the unilateral measures taken by the STC, including the deployment of forces outside their areas of responsibility and the establishment of de facto structures. They described these steps as an encroachment on the powers of the legitimate government.
They noted that attempts to subjugate the three governorates by force pose a direct threat to unified security and military decision-making and could spark internal conflicts that would benefit the Iran-backed Houthi movement.
The parties attributed the current crisis to divisions within the PLC and the failure to implement the Riyadh Agreement, along with imbalances in political partnership and the concentration of national decision-making in the hands of limited actors.
They called for containing the division and returning to dialogue to resolve contentious issues, stressing the need to agree on a dedicated framework for the southern issue in any future negotiations.
The parties praised Saudi efforts to contain the rift and warned that any security or political instability in the three governorates would negatively impact salary payments and fuel supplies for electricity, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and paving the way for further instability.
They also urged international partners to adopt a clear stance rejecting unilateral actions and supporting constitutional legitimacy and state institutions.
The statement emphasized that Yemen’s future depends on a strong and cohesive state. It warned that the erosion of state authority would lead to fragmentation of power and the rise of small armed factions, threatening stability in both the north and south.
The parties reaffirmed their full support for measures aimed at strengthening state authority and focusing efforts on the primary battle against the Houthi terrorist militia.
In conclusion, they welcomed the sponsoring countries’ ambassadors’ reaffirmation of their support for the PLC and the government, and their renewed commitment to Yemen’s unity and stability.
They underscored their firm stance in aligning behind legitimacy, supporting efforts to safeguard national peace and Yemen’s territorial integrity, and rejecting any actions, formations, or movements outside the framework of the law.
