UN Launches Urgent $2.5 Billion Appeal to Tackle Yemen’s Deepening Humanitarian Crisis in 2026

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The United Nations has launched an urgent appeal to fund the 2026 Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan, requesting the international community to raise $2.5 billion to confront a humanitarian crisis that is escalating in complexity and severity. The plan aims to provide support to more than 10.5 million people in desperate need, with a special focus on life-saving interventions and combating hunger and malnutrition in the most deprived areas.

The UN indicated that the continuation of conflict, economic deterioration, and climate shocks are pushing Yemen toward a total collapse, with over 23 million Yemenis—approximately 65.4% of the population—expected to require humanitarian aid and protection services next year.

The organization recorded harrowing figures regarding hunger levels, which threaten 18.1 million people with acute food insecurity, including 5.8 million facing emergency-level famine. Additionally, 2.5 million children under the age of five and 1.3 million pregnant and breastfeeding women are suffering from severe acute malnutrition.

Amid the massive collapse of basic systems, 8.41 million people lack access to healthcare, while 15 million suffer from water insecurity. Furthermore, more than 16 million people require protection services, including 4.7 million internally displaced persons (IDPs), and 2.6 million children are out of school.

The United Nations warned that failure to secure the necessary funding could dangerously exacerbate the hunger crisis and lead to the collapse of essential services, seriously threatening the stability of the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
